Confirm what date and at what time the unit will be available.

Note the times that the facility is open; make sure you will be done packing the unit by 6 pm.  

Alarms will activate automatically after hours, make usre you are off premises by 19:00.  This cannot be overridden. 

Transport:

• Make sure you have suitable transport for the goods to be stored.  We have wide areas between blocks, furniture removal trucks can be accommodated.

• Make sure you will have enough hands to do the physical labour of loading and unloading the goods.

Get storage aids:

• Palates (treated wood, as raw wood tends to attract termites.),

• Boxes (plastic or cardboard). Get large boxes for lighter items and smaller boxes for storing of heavy goods. Get boxes that are sturdy.

• Bubble wrap, newspaper or other packing material

• Clear or buff tape and a tape dispenser to seal boxes and bags with

• Markers to write the content on boxes,

• Plastic sheets to protect goods from dust during storage or from rain during transport, 

• Tie-downs or rope and cable ties for securing the goods in transport, 

• For long term storage, get some pest control in place (e.g. moth balls) to protect your valuables during storage.

• For heavier goods, rather invest in plastic bins.

• Invest in some vacuum storage bags if you want to place linen or similar goods in storage for extended periods. Vacuum sealed bags save on space and they remove air, which can often be the cause of mould and rot.

• Get a few moth balls if you plan to store linen, paper or similar goods in boxes.

• Gloves to protect your hands from injury and from getting dirty during the move.

• Buy a padlock for the door (available from our office).

• Note that certain items may not be stored in your unit: living animals or plants; fuel, gas, or other explosive or highly flammable goods; food or other perishables that may rot or emit a smell; radioactive material; toxic waste; firearms and ammunition.
